Easter Traditions

For centuries now the non-secular deep rooted symbols of Easter have long been the adorable fluffy Easter Bunny, colorfully creative Easter eggs and generous amounts of sweet treats for all of those Easter baskets.  All across the country the signs of Easter are hard to miss as they have stood the test of time for all little boys and girls.

It is believed that the origin of the Easter Bunny stems from German immigrants who came to the U.S. back in the 1700's who brought their tradition of an egg-laying hare with them.  The kids would build sturdy nests in which the bunny would lay its colored eggs and it wasn't long before this tradition swept across the United States.  Soon, the sweet Easter bunny would be delivering an assortment of chocolates and jelly beans to children everywhere and the famed Easter Basket would soon replace the nests.

A second well known tradition is that of decorating Easter eggs for the celebrated Easter egg hunt that occurs each year.  This time honored custom dates back to at least the 13th century where it is believed that during the Lenten season, eggs were a food that was banned, so people would decorate them as colorfully as they could to mark the end of the fasting period, and then eat them on Easter day as commemoration.

Easter Day Gift BasketThe third tradition most Americans relate to is all of that delicious Easter candy!  Baskets full of colorful Jelly Beans, chocolate eggs and marshmallow Peep's tend to be the popular choices for filling Easter baskets.  Kids near and far will wake up on that most important Easter morning to see what the Easter bunny has left for them and they will be happy to devour those pastel colored sweet treats as fast as they can to make room for the Easter egg hunt.

If you are unable to be with your loved ones on Easter morning, The Gift Basket Pros would be happy to send a beautifully prepared Easter Gift Basket full of sweet treats for the entire family.  From plush Easter bunnies to candy filled containers, we can help you celebrate with your family by sending a fun-filled Easter gift!
